A School for Borlorla Town

Financial help for poor, needy families

The decision to establish the NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND rural community program this year in Borlorla Town, Sanoyea District, Bong County was made following assessments of two other rural communities to identify the community in the highest need of the NCLB-Liberia Program with the following as triggering factors to selecting a community:

  • Lack of School or Educational facilities within the community,
  • Cases of out-of-school children present due to financial crises faced by the child’s/children’s parents,
  • Distance barriers are experienced by the kids to access the nearby educational facility or school.

Our first community engagement meeting in Borlorla Town was held on May 29, 2023. This meeting brought together a little over twenty-two (22) community members including the town leadership, youth head, and elders. The purpose of this meeting was to share with the community, the mission and objectives of the NCLB-Liberia Program and seek the interest of the community to embrace the establishment of our program in Borlorla Town. The meeting ended successfully with the consensus of the entire township headed by Mr. Joseph Fahn, Town Chief of Borlorla. They assured us to provide the space for the classes and recommended two individuals to apply for the teacher position. 

Another meeting was held shortly after, and the recommended teachers described the roles of the NCLB-Program teaching staff and the application requirements. In attendance were the Town Chief and the two recommended teachers.

On the 9th of June 2023, an official trip was made from Monrovia to Borlorla Town to get the following tasks done:

  • Identification and profiling information of the kids between 4yrs and 12yrs to the program and application process of the teachers recommended by the community and filling in of the NCLB Rural Community Partnership Application Form. The total number of kids recruited is fifty (50) from Borlorla Town and two nearby small towns (Naypay’s Town and Manakporlorsue).
  • The Teachers’ application process was also completed and collected for submission.
  • The NCLB Rural Community Partnership Application Form was filled in by the Town Chief of Borlorla Township, Mr. Joseph Fahn on the same day.
  • The fifty students would be sorted into two classes with a teacher assigned to a maximum of 25 (twenty-five) students per class.
  • We were able to complete all the tasks mentioned above in June. Assessment of the spaces to be provided by the community was not completed. It is our hope we get to complete all the needed tasks in subsequent months before the commencement of the next academic school year, 2023/2024.
